1) History of India & Indian National Movement
Must read NCERT (Old), Class XI & XII, to have the basic idea about three major part of
History i.e Ancient India, Medieval India, Modern India.
It has been observed in last 8 years that majority of the question asked in prelims from
Modern India and Indian National Movement. So to strengthen this area one should
read the book written by Grover & Grover (For both English & Hindi) OR SPECTRUM’S A
Brief History of Modern India, Second important section of history that asked in prelims isArt & Culture. To prepare for this section one has to read Book Facets of Indian
Culture (Publication: - Spectrum).
2) India & World Geography
NCERT (New) of Std. 11 and 12. If one required basic conceptual clarity then they can readNCERT (New) from Std. 7 to 10 also. For the prelims exam, NCERT is more than sufficientfor Geography.

3) Indian Polity & Governance

4) Economics & Social Issues
To get basic about Macro Economics one must read NCERT (New) of Std. 11
(Understanding Eco. Development) and of Std. 12 (Macro Economics).
After getting the basic idea, to have a deeper knowledge of Indian Economy read Lall&Lall
(For Hindi) and Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh (Hindi & English)
Normally it has been observed that most of the question asked in prelims exam are fromCurrent Economic Events at National and International level. So to have an idea
about Current affairs of Economics, one can read thoroughly Good Newspaper like
Economic Times or The Hindu (Business Page).
5) Environment, Ecology & Biodiversity
In last eight years it is observed that on an average 15 questions has been asked on this
topic regularly, so strengthen this topic one must read Book “Ecology & Environment”
written by S.K. Ojha in Hindi.

Biology class XII (New) OR Material of NIOS or book written by Majid Husain
6) General Science
New NCERT of class VII –X. Normally it is observed that Question asked in prelims from
Current Events related to Science and Technology. So instead of reading traditional
books, it is recommendable to read Magazine like Down to Earth (fortnightly) and regularNewspaper reading to get a day to day update about S&T. Simultaneously this
magazine also helpful to get regular updates regarding Environment, Ecology &
Biodiversity.
7) Current Affairs
One or Two good Newspaper in Hindi or English like The Hindu, Economic Times, Indian
Express, Hindustan Times.
